I am a ceramic designer/maker based in the heart of Northamptonshire, UK, creating my handmade one-off ceramic pieces from my workshop at home. It is here that I enjoy spending time on new natural designs while listening to music and drinking tea!

My journey began when I found myself fascinated with the qualities of clay as a material while at college. I loved art and being creative at school, which is why I studied a broad range of art at A Level, including Fine Art, 3D Design, and Art & Design. My A Levels were like a foundation course, as I was able to get involved and experience every material to know which media I wanted to specialise in.

I had always enjoyed surface pattern and design, which led me to go on to University in Coventry where I studied a 3 year BA Hons degree in Surface Decoration, and specialised in ceramics. I graduated in 2008 and have since been continuing to develop and broaden my work from my workshop at home. I am so proud of how far I have come during the past few years, and am so pleased with all of the amazing things that have happened. I can’t wait to find out what lies ahead of me in the future!

I am inspired by everything natural and organic – especially close up surfaces such as tree bark, rocks, and plants. Whilst concealed amongst these natural surroundings in the landscape, I feel relaxed and at home. I find it amazing to see the changes in rocks and coves caused by weathering and erosion from the sea, bumpy and colourful linear patterns found within fields and hills, and the surfaces in nature where no two marks are ever the same – it is this particular aspect that my ceramics connects to.

My current range of works range from vessels, coasters, plaques, clocks, vases, bowls, tea light holders, plant markers, wind chimes, planters, brooches, magnets, pendants, framed ceramic art, and gift tags. I am always creating and developing new products, and enjoy taking on commissions.

In 1912 Porter’s began as a retail entity in Rexburg, Idaho. The original store was a sideline to Arthur Porter’s newspaper and printing business. The business has grown and stayed within the family and now the store’s retail theme has evolved into crafts, fabric, framing, and creative merchandise. We have every kind of craft, craft accessory, craft tool, and craft embellishment imaginable. Porter’s continues to grow and develop in order to support the growing community both online and physically. There is now a store in Idaho Falls and an online presence.

Magical Art Doll Conference is a non-profit organization devoted to nourishing doll making, fiber and textile arts through education. The Conference is a bi-yearly education event to bring in artists to teach techniques and skills in further pursuance of art. To be held in Tulsa, OK on October 11-13, 2013.

This year our teachers will be Linda Misa from Australia, Jessica Hamilton of Doll Project and Barbara Schoenoff from Illinois.
